Ma Integration – Managing the Integration of Work Streams

Ma integration is a mathematical process which uses the integral formula in order to determine areas of objects with varying dimensions. The formula is often employed in engineering and physics to calculate center of gravity, mass moment of inertia and kinetic energy of moving objects. It is also useful in other areas such as determining the speed of an object and determining its path.

To ensure the integration of workstreams you require a committed and visible leader as well as clear communication processes. Conflicting cultures are a frequent reason for failures in integration, such as the shift from an acute care mentality to a more population-based approach (Hardy and others). 1999; Coburn 2001). A successful integration requires leaders to promote and support a single vision across the whole organization, while also creating an environment that supports it.

One of the biggest risks in integration is a loss of key talent. Inability to address cultural issues and the lag between new organizational structures, leadership and management causes talented executives to move on to other opportunities. This loss could be reduced by ensuring that the leadership team stays intact during the transition and by establishing an employee identification system that is based more on the talent of employees than seniority.

Internal newsletters, project check management tools and interactive platforms can be used to share the progress made on integration milestones and giving stakeholders the chance to offer feedback. Stakeholder meetings are a great communication tool to sustain momentum, build trust and engagement and address any concerns. Regular updates keep employees engaged throughout the process and explain how the integration has benefited the business results and created shareholder value.
